Psychiatric Comorbidity in Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder:

Psychiatric Comorbidity in Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: Findings From Multiplex Families
James J. McGough, M.D., Susan L. Smalley, Ph.D., James T. McCracken, M.D., May Yang, M.S., Melissa Del’Homme, Ph.D., Deborah E. Lynn, M.D., and Sandra Loo, Ph.D.

OBJECTIVE: Patterns of psychiatric comorbidity were assessed in adults with and without attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) identified through a genetic study of families containing multiple children with ADHD. METHOD: Lifetime ADHD and comorbid psychopathology were assessed in 435 parents of children with ADHD. Rates and mean ages at onset of comorbid psychopathology were compared in parents with lifetime ADHD, parents with persistent ADHD, and those without ADHD. Age-adjusted rates of comorbidity were compared with Kaplan-Meier survival curves. Logistic regression was used to assess additional risk factors for conditions more frequent in ADHD subjects. RESULTS: The parents with ADHD were significantly more likely to be unskilled workers and less likely to have a college degree. ADHD subjects had more lifetime psychopathology; 87% had at least one and 56% had at least two other psychiatric disorders, compared with 64% and 27%, respectively, in non-ADHD subjects. ADHD was associated with greater disruptive behavior, substance use, and mood and anxiety disorders and with earlier onset of major depression, dysthymia, oppositional defiant disorder, and conduct disorder. Group differences based on Kaplan-Meier age-corrected risks were consistent with those for raw frequency distributions. Male sex added risk for disruptive behavior disorders. Female sex and oppositional defiant disorder contributed to risk for depression and anxiety. ADHD was not a significant risk factor for substance use disorders when male sex, disruptive behavior disorders, and socioeconomic status were controlled. CONCLUSIONS: Adult ADHD is associated with significant lifetime psychiatric comorbidity that is not explained by clinical referral bias.

Pass these tip along. The media is only worried about sensation. We need to communicate sensible simple solutions!!!!!!!!!!!

simple water still

Dig a cone shaped hole in moist soil (sand!). Place a clean container in the bottom of the cone. Cover the top of the hole with plastic and put weights around parimeter (soil). Drop a stone or small weight on top of the center of the plastic right over the container. The sun will evaporate water vapors which will collect on the plastic and drip down into the container.

THIS WORKS PEOPLE! You can live a month without food if you just have water!

DIG LATRINES! Don't add to the contamination already there from flooding.

Where's all the boy scouts?

I know the South is full of survivalists. There's millions of plain ol' dumb country folk that are used to improvising and getting by.

Step up! It's time for the shepards that knows what to do to step forward. There's thousands of God's sheep that need our help.

Those city folk will sit there and die waiting on beaurocrats to act. They seem more concerned in gathering more money and resources THAT THEY CAN'T DISTRIBUTE.

Spread the word! We need a media that will give USEFUL INFO to those in trouble.

HELP YOURSELVES!

It's past time to stop wringing your hands and second guessing 'the system'.

America's foolish pride is such that we don't seem willing to ask for help. We've forgotten that it's as blessed to ACCEPT HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT as it is to help others in need. We're denying them the opportunity to shine.

Get back to the basics! Break into smaller groups. Dig latrine trenches. Make water stills by putting a plastic 'tent' over a pot of contaminated water to catch the steam. Arrange the peak (by putting small rocks underneath and tying the supporting string around the plastic with the rocks inside) such that it hangs back down so as the steam condenses it will drip into a clean container.

Vigilante justice! Mob those SOB's that are shooting at rescue personel.

Stop waiting for someone else or 'them'. Do something! Rise up America. Where's your pioneer spirit.

The media needs to show simple methods like these I'm mentioned, and more, instead of pointing fingers and screaming woe is us.
