"There are fewer communists in the world today than there were. *There are some new modern-day sort of communists who want to get rid of the incentive for musicians and moviemakers and software makers under various guises.*" Gates spoke with CNET News.com" (source)

Modern-day sort of communists!?

I would argue that the BEST incentives when making music, movies, software, or anything else is expressing talent, desire, enjoyment, satisfaction, inclination, benevolence, and love of/for the making of them.

With those goals there wouldn't be near as much half-assed trash out there that required consumers to pay the highest price$ the market will bear first, then collectively help to fix it afterwards, before it can be safely applied towards it's intended use!

While I'm on my soapBox,

let's drop the 'ists' that THEY use to demonize opposing or conflicting ideas by 'putting them in a box' and attacking the box. If we need to consider commune in any context, it should be community!

I do agree with Bill that the previous major 'ist' is now struggling to be us, and the remaining one now has 'most favored nation' trading status with U.S. as well.

Did I say I was standing on my soapbox? Likely, the box THEY would want you to know I'm speaking from is the old 'disgruntled Vietnam Vet' box. Just as they did with the last presidential contender. I must admit to fitting into it better than I do the new, revized, redefined 'Patriot' box. I can't fit well into that one anymore because as long as I have a breath to speak with, (or any medium) I will have my say and offer my opinion in matters of import to us all.

As an old fashioned patriot, I voluntarily did my duty to fight for our constitutional rights to free speech, democracy, and everything else that helps define and guide a free people willingly agreeing to collective rights and laws. That was back when Democracy was righteous and not always being associated with 'the Left'.
