gReader sharingFAQ

  • 1. What is the public page?
    • Every Google Reader account comes with a public page which you can use to share items of interest with your friends and family. To see your public page, click on "shared items" and follow the link that appears above the items.
  • 2. Who can see my public page?
    • Like any regular web page, your public page is viewable by anyone who knows its address. Send the link to your friends and family, and they'll be able to read what you recommend. They can bookmark it in their browser for easy access, and they can even subscribe to it in Google Reader.
  • 3. How do I add items to my public page?
    • To share an item, click on the sharing icon. The item will be added to your public page.
  • 4. Can I remove items from my public page?
    • To remove an item from the page, find the item among your shared items, and click the sharing icon once again so that it is no longer orange. The item will disappear from the public page (the item might still appear in other applications that track your feed, if these applications found the change before you removed it).
  • 5. Can I share items with specific people?
    • Your public page is viewable by anyone who knows the address. However, if you wish to share an article with a specific person, you can click the email button to send a link to a friend (requires a Gmail account).
  • 6. Can I customize my public page?
    • At the present time, it is not possible to customize your public page beyond choosing the items you share.
  • 7. Are there other ways to share items in Google Reader?
    • Google Reader allows you to assign tags to individual items. To tag an item, click on the 'add tag' link and enter a descriptive tag name. You can then go to the settings page and make the tag public. A unique URL is created that links to the latest items with your public tag. You can post this link on the web or send it to your friends.
  • 8. What is a clip?
    • A clip is a compact list of the latest headlines from items with a particular tag. You can easily add a clip to your website or blog by copy-pasting the provided HTML code into your site template. To obtain the HTML code, go to the "tags" tab in the settings page. You will also be able to customize the appearance of your clip to match your site.
